Terms and Conditions

Welcome to Angler. These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern your use of the Angler mobile application ("the App," "Angler," "we," "us," or "our"). By downloading, installing, or using Angler, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

1. Description of service

Angler is a screen-time awareness application that converts your social media scroll activity into a calculated distance metric, assigns you a rank based on an ocean-depth theme, and offers optional tools to help you reduce phone usage, including scheduled app blocking and recap statistics. Angler is a productivity and self-improvement tool. It is not a medical device, and it does not diagnose, treat, or provide clinical guidance for any physical or mental health condition.

2. Eligibility

Angler is intended for general audiences. If you are under the age of 13 (or the applicable age of digital consent in your region), you should use Angler only with the involvement of a parent or guardian, consistent with your device's own parental control settings.

3. Permissions

Screen Time. Angler requires you to grant Screen Time / Family Controls authorization through Apple's system permission prompt in order to function. This permission allows Angler to read app usage data on your device to calculate your statistics and, if you enable it, to schedule app blocks. You may revoke this permission at any time through your device Settings, though doing so will disable Angler's core tracking and blocking features.

Notifications. Angler may request permission to send you local notifications related to your rank, milestones, active blocks, and weekly recaps. These are generated on your device and are entirely optional. You may decline or revoke this permission at any time through your device Settings without affecting Angler's core tracking and blocking features.

4. Blocking features

Angler offers optional, user-configurable app blocking based on your ocean rank tier. You acknowledge and agree that:

• All blocks created by Angler are intentionally designed to be bypassable. Angler is a friction and awareness tool, not a hard-lockout parental control or enforcement product.
• Blocks may be lifted early through in-app mechanisms, including the "Double or Nothing" feature described in Section 5.
• Angler is not responsible for your continued use of blocked applications if you choose to bypass a block or disable Screen Time permissions.

5. Double or Nothing feature

Angler includes an optional in-app feature ("Double or Nothing") that presents a short, skill-based timing challenge to either lift an active block or extend its duration. You acknowledge that:

• The outcome of this feature is determined entirely by your reaction timing and skill in the challenge. It does not involve chance, a random number generator, or any simulated game of chance.
• This feature does not involve real money, virtual currency with monetary value, in-app purchases, or any prize that can be redeemed, exchanged, or cashed out.
• The only stakes involved are the duration of an app block already active within the App itself.
• This feature is provided for entertainment and behavioral-engagement purposes as part of the App's self-improvement design. Because it involves no element of chance, it does not constitute gambling or simulated gambling under applicable law.

6. No accounts

Angler does not require account creation. All data generated by your use of the App is stored locally on your device, as described in our Privacy Policy.

7. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the App, except where such restriction is prohibited by applicable law.
• Use the App in any way that violates applicable local, state, national, or international law.
• Attempt to interfere with, disable, or circumvent any security or technical limitation of the App.

8. Intellectual property

The App, including its design, graphics, ocean rank system, branding, and all associated content, is owned by Shahrokh Shakouri and is protected by applicable copyright and trademark laws. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the App for your personal, non-commercial use, subject to these Terms.

App icons displayed within Angler for tracked third-party applications (such as social media apps) are retrieved via Apple's public iTunes Search API and remain the property of their respective trademark and copyright holders. Display of these icons within Angler is solely for the functional purpose of identifying which tracked app generated a given statistic and does not imply any affiliation, sponsorship, or endorsement by those third parties.

9. Disclaimer of warranties

Angler is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that usage calculations will be perfectly precise, as they depend on Apple's underlying Screen Time framework and your own device calibration settings.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Shahrokh Shakouri shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, arising out of or related to your use of, or inability to use, the App.

11. Changes to the App and these Terms

We may update, modify, or discontinue features of the App at any time. We may also revise these Terms periodically; continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms. We will update the effective date above when changes are made.

12. Termination

You may stop using Angler at any time by deleting the App from your device. We reserve the right to suspend or discontinue the App's availability at our discretion.

13. Governing law

These Terms shall be governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.
